Argentina Limits Participation in Glaciers Law Hearings

Argentina's Congress will hold two public hearings on the reform of the Glaciers Law, with participation restricted to only 200 out of 100,000 registered individuals. The ruling coalition 'La Libertad Avanza' (LLA) has designed a hybrid participation model: 100 speakers will attend in person on Wednesday, 100 will present remotely via Zoom on Thursday, and the rest will have to submit a written statement or a video. Although the judiciary rejected one of the injunctions aimed at suspending the hearings, another request from environmental organizations remains unresolved. Furthermore, attendance is limited to only 66 deputies and two advisors per bloc. Speakers will not be allowed to speak for more than five minutes.
